Almost Everyone Is Vitamin D Deficient (And It Might Be Why You Feel Like Crap)

Let me start with this:
For almost 2 months, I completely fell off taking my Vitamin D3 + K2 consistently.
At first, I didn’t think much of it.
But over time I started noticing:
Low energy
Brain fog
Feeling lazy and unmotivated
Worse mood
Slower recovery
Just feeling… off
Not sick. Not dying. Just not functioning at the level I normally do.
And honestly, I couldn’t figure out why.
I was still training. Still eating relatively well. Still doing “most” things right.
Then it hit me:I hadn’t been taking my Vitamin D consistently.
So I got back on it.
And within a relatively short time? Probably 50% of that garbage feeling disappeared.
And it reminded me of something I tell clients all the time:
A LOT of people are walking around Vitamin D deficient and don’t even realize it.
Vitamin D Isn’t “Just a Vitamin”
This is important.
Vitamin D functions more like a hormone in the body than a typical vitamin.
It impacts:
Energy levels
Mood
Immune system function
Hormones
Muscle recovery
Bone health
Inflammation
Cognitive function
Which means when your Vitamin D levels are low…
You feel it.
Usually as:
Fatigue
Brain fog
Low motivation
Feeling “blah”
Poor sleep
Weaker immune system
Mood changes
Lower exercise performance
Sound familiar?
The Winter Problem (And the Summer Problem Too)
Most people associate Vitamin D deficiency with winter.
And yes—winter is a huge problem because:
Less sunlight
Shorter days
More time indoors
But honestly?
Now we’ve created a summer problem too.
People are:
Indoors all day
Working office jobs
Covering themselves constantly
Avoiding sunlight entirely
Wearing sunscreen 24/7
Living under artificial light
So even in the middle of summer…Many people STILL aren’t getting enough natural Vitamin D production.
We’ve become a society that fears the sun completely, while also wondering why everyone is exhausted, depressed, inflamed, and unhealthy.
Now obviously I’m not saying: “Go bake yourself in the sun for 8 hours.”
But responsible sunlight exposure matters.
Your body was designed to interact with sunlight.
Why I Take Vitamin D WITH K2
This part matters.
A lot of people supplement Vitamin D alone and ignore Vitamin K2.
But they work together.
Here’s the simple version:
Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium
Vitamin K2 helps direct that calcium where it’s supposed to go
Like:
Bones
Teeth
Instead of potentially ending up in places you DON’T want excess calcium accumulating.
Think of K2 like the traffic director.
That’s why I almost always recommend D3 paired with K2.
Why Deficiency Is So Common
Honestly?
Modern life is almost perfectly designed for low Vitamin D.
Think about it:
Indoor jobs
Less outdoor activity
Chronic stress
Poor sleep
Processed diets
Screen-heavy lifestyles
And then people wonder why they constantly feel:
Tired
Foggy
Unmotivated
Run down
I truly believe Vitamin D deficiency is massively under-recognized.
And no—supplements are not magic.
But if your body is deficient in something critically important…Fixing that deficiency can absolutely change how you feel.
I experienced it myself.
Supplements Don’t Replace the Basics
Now let me be clear before people misunderstand this.
Vitamin D is NOT a replacement for:
Sleep
Exercise
Proper nutrition
Hydration
Stress management
But if those things are relatively decent and you’re still feeling awful?
Vitamin D status is absolutely worth looking into.
One of the Biggest Mistakes People Make
People normalize feeling terrible.
They think:
“I’m just getting older”
“I’m just busy”
“I guess this is normal”
No.
Sometimes your body is literally asking for support.
And while there’s no magic pill for health…There ARE deficiencies and habits that can quietly drag down your quality of life.
Final Thought
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in fitness and coaching is this:
Small daily habits can completely change how you feel.
For me recently? Getting consistent again with Vitamin D3 + K2 made a noticeable difference FAST.
More energy. Better mood. Less fog. Less “blah.”
And if you’re feeling constantly tired, mentally foggy, unmotivated, or just not like yourself…
There’s a good chance your body may be missing something important.
At Butler Elite Training, this is exactly why we focus on the fundamentals first:
Nutrition
Recovery
Sleep
Movement
Stress management
Supporting the body properly
Because sometimes the answer isn’t more hustle…
It’s giving your body what it’s been lacking.
